FERDINAND HODLER
Maler der frühen Moderne
Ferdinand Hodler (1853–1918) is among the most important Swiss artists of the early twentieth century. He developed an unmistakable style within Symbolism and Art Nouveau. The exhibition Ferdinand Hodler: Early Modern Painter at the Bundeskunsthalle is the first extensive presentation of his works in Germany in nearly twenty years and is taking place in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Bern.
The exhibition provides insight into the artist’s work on the threshold of the modernism with around one hundred paintings. Hodler’s penchant for ornament and formal repetition were considered novel among contemporary artists. The accompanying publication presents the artistic spectrum of this exceptional artist.
The Typography
I am happy to have had the opportunity to use my own designed typeface—FF Karbid Pro Text—for this exciting project. The very reduced Art Nouveau design language of FF Karbid Pro works just perfect for this publication about this important pioneer painter of the modernism era.
My regards go to the wonderful team of Bundeskunsthalle Bonn.
A big thank you to Kathleen Herfurth and Petra Merschbrock from Kerber Verlag.
