REIULF RAMSTAD ARCHITECTS
Selected Works

This book can be described as 288 pages of pure beauty, created by the perfect collaboration between landscape and architecture. To support the wonderful photographs of Reiulf Ramstad Architects’ amazing architecture, I decided to show most of the photographs as landscape paintings: with a generous white frame, like put behind luxurious passepartouts.

Reiulf Ramstad is one of Norway's most promising architects and a leading exponent of a new and revitalized Nordic architecture representing some of the classical virtues of the tradition known as Critical Regionalism. Ramstad graduated from the School of Architecture in Venice in 1995 and was influenced by, among others, Aldo Rossi, Carlo Scarpa, and later by Sverre Fehn, whose unique design language, animated use of materials, and sense of tactility he has managed to both carry on and reinterpret. Ramstad has won several international prizes and competitions for his outstanding projects. This exclusive monograph, edited by Danish architectural critic Boris Brorman Jensen, presents the architect's mental landscape and provides an in-depth study of the unique qualities and exceptional contextual sensibility that characterize in his entire oeuvre.

The layout is inspired by the topographic layers of the beautiful norwegian landscape. These layers are shown trough out the book: The images, columns, captions and page numbers are set on two different baselines, which reflects the different heights and emboss of the fjords.
For the texts, I used Pluto Sans Thin and Light, by Hannes von Döhren. It is printed in a wonderful warm grey spot color.
In the interview section, little thumbnail images accompany the text, and are used as footnotes.
The print result of the very thin and light plans and sections is just incredible. They are all printed in black and grey spot color.

Special thanks to Dawn Michelle d’Atri, Julika Zimmermann and Katja Jäger from the wonderful Hatje Cantz Berlin team, and to Jan Scheffler from prints professional.
